Gameboy Color non oem reproduction Resident Evil video game cartridge. Game cartridge comes with a plastic protective case just like the picture shows.

The Resident Evil port for the Gameboy Color is a famously unreleased "demake" of the original 1996 PlayStation title. Developed by HotGen Studios starting in early 1999, it was an ambitious attempt to condense a 500MB CD-ROM game into an 8MB cartridge.

Key Features & Description

  • Faithful Adaptation: Unlike the eventually released Resident Evil Gaiden, which used a top-down view, this port retained the original's fixed-camera angles, pre-rendered backgrounds, puzzles, and 3D perspectives.
  • Technical Achievement: The game used software-scaled sprites to simulate 3D movement, which pushed the GBC hardware to its limits.
  • Handheld Optimization: It introduced a quick-save/pause feature to replace the limited Ink Ribbons, making it more practical for portable play.
  • Content: Build versions circulating online include both Chris and Jill's campaigns, though some animations (like zombie deaths) and certain enemies were unfinished.

Cancellation & Legacy

Capcom canceled the project in March 2000, shortly before its planned release. Official reasons cited a lack of confidence that the product would satisfy consumers due to the technical limitations of the GBC hardware. It was subsequently replaced by the mechanically simpler Resident Evil Gaiden in 2001.
